I grew up in Chicago, IL as an only child of a single-mother. I graduated from the University of Iowa with an English degree. After living in Iowa for about 7 years, I relocated to Arizona where I’ve learned so much about myself.
I am a writer at heart. At the start of my journey as a writer pre-college, my focus was spoken word poetry. During college, it was fiction and creative non-fiction. Now, it is poetry. My creative writing focuses on dystopias, self-reflection, mental health (depression), and examining relationships and communication.
I have a complex relationship with fitness and nutrition. I threw shot put and discus in high school so that I would look better on paper to colleges. Turns out, I actually love weightlifting and it gave me a confidence and strength that I didn’t know I was capable of. Over the years, I’ve self-studied to learn more about how the human body moves, grow, heals, and is nourished.
Depression and anxiety are reoccurring presences in my life. I am hesitant to say that I “am” either of those things. I continually work to uncover the root of my emotions and actions to better understand myself and others, so that my mind can grow and heal. I often speak about this in my blog and hope that my experience can help someone else.
